These brown and gold coloured Ammonites come in a variety of sizes, from very small pieces which are suitable for jewellery to very large pieces, some as big as 60 cm (2 feet) across. The “golden colors” are actually barite and calcite mineral replacements on the original fossil specimen, caused over millions of years of the fossil process.

On occasion this fossil specimen has been cut in half to show the inner coils and chambers. These ammonites show the perfection of the ammonite, they are very well preserved, almost every chamber is intact, there are distinctive lines separating the individual chambers. When polished on the outside, often suture and growth lines cover the ammonite. This of course makes the ammonite extremely beautiful, which makes it more sought after, as well as more valuable and rare.

The main types of ammonites found in these golden colours are the cleoniceras, desmoceras, nautilus, beudanticeras, argonticeras, aieoceras, colignoceras, dactylioceras, alligaticeras, and perisphinctes to name a few. A lot of cleaning and polishing work goes into every one of these unique pieces. The ammonites must be polished very carefully by expert polishers to avoid breakage. The age of the chambered ammonites vary from 65 million to 135 million years old.

Rutilated quartz is quartz where a band of foreign mineral has grown inside the quartz. Rutiles may be gold or red (titanium), and sometimes other minerals such as black tourmaline, pyrite, hematite, or epidot (to name a few), may be found growing inside quartz. These types of quartzes with rutiles growing inside them are very rare and sought after.

Rutilated quartz is thought to be a powerful healer; it is stronger than other quartz as the rutiles are said to intensify the power for the quartz.

Citrine is a semi-precious gemstone.  It is best described as a beautiful yellow transparent gemstone. It is a form of yellow quartz; although it very often resembles a yellow topaz.  Yellow clear quartz is called citrine, purple quartz is called amethyst. Sometimes these two colours will appear together, the combination citrine and amethyst stones are called ametrines.

The stone of abundance, citrine is said to be a "money stone", and will bring prosperity to all aspects of your life, not just monetary. Some believe that Citrine is useful for people who can't slow down, it is said to allow people to slow down and relax. Whatever your beliefs, may you enjoy your citrine stone.

This fossil requires special care - exposure to water and other chemicals, such as lotions or perfumes, will damage it over time. If you polish the jewellery, avoid polishing the fossil itself. A silver-cleaning dip should never be used with this piece.
