Tiger Iron Egg

This unusual rock is best described as a combination of the stones gold tiger-eye, grey hematite and red jasper. These minerals together create a very beautiful and unique stone.  Tiger iron is a fairly heavy stone. As mentioned above, it contains hematite, which gives the stone its weight, as hematite is 70% iron. The gold flashes are caused by the tiger-eye.  These flashes can be quite spectacular in some pieces. Tiger iron makes beautiful stone jewellery; it also makes a good stone for home decorator pieces. It is a little more difficult to carve as the different stones that make up tiger iron have different hardness and require different carving and polishing methods to produce the best results.
