Coral is a semi-precious gemstone which occurs in several colors including red, black, white, and pink. It is best described as the fossil remains of the coral marine animal. It grew in branches that look like underwater trees.
Coral jewellery has been used for adornment since prehistoric times. Coral inlays and coral jewelry have been found from the Iron Age. Coral also has a history of religious significance. Coral is one of the seven treasures in Buddhist scriptures, and coral, when worn touching against the skin, was long thought to be a powerful talisman that could stop bleeding, protect from evil spirits, and ward off bad weather.
