Mother of Pearl Cameo Pendant

Mother of Pearl is the iridescent layer that lines the shells of some mollusks such as clams, abalone and clams, to name a few. Mollusks will coat the lining of their shells with an organic substance called Nacre, which gives Mother of Pearl its iridescent qualities. It is closely related to Pearls, however Pearls are formed when an irritant enters a mollusks shell and is trapped inside. To protect against irritation, the foreign substance is coated with nacre and a Pearl is formed. Mother of Pearl is often used in jewellery or beads, due to its unique beauty.

This piece contains authentic Mother of Pearl, and no two are exactly alike. The item you receive may have slight variations from the one photographed.

Exposure to water and other chemicals, such as shampoos or perfumes, will damage it over time. Avoid spraying harsh cleaners and perfumes on the stone as it is very porous and these items may discolor or damage the pearl.
If you polish the jewellery, avoid polishing the piece itself. A silver-cleaning dip should never be used with this piece.
