Turquoise ranges in color from a beautiful blue, to a blue-green, to a greenish colored semi-precious gemstone.  Blue however, is the main color associated with turquoise.  Turquoise is stone that has been admired for its beauty for a long time. Turquoise is often found in conjunction with copper in copper mines. Turquoise from different mines will have a distinctive color and matrix pattern to it. The matrix and lines within the stone add to its natural beauty.
 
Turquoise is found in many locations around the world. The stone has been used by many different Southwest Indians including the Hopi, Zuni and Navajo Indians.  They are famous for their silverwork with the turquoise stone and with other stones including black jet, mother of pearl shell, pink mussel shell, oyster shell, abalone shell, red coral, sugilite, malachite and lapis and more recently with gemstones from around the world.  Turquoise is considered on of the birthstones for December.  It has also been a fashionable accessory stone for many years.
 
Some believe turquoise may be used to help with exhaustion, it may also help with minor aches and pains. It may also be used as a mood enhancer, it may help one to lead a happier life.

This stone requires special care - exposure to water and other chemicals, such as lotions or perfumes, will damage it over time. If you polish the jewellery, avoid polishing the stone itself. A silver-cleaning dip should never be used with this piece.
